Happiness is...

paying a student loan DILIGENTLY for so many years then one day getting a letter saying that because we've been so consistant and on time (no late payments!) at paying that they will forgive the rest of the balance. That is 1 whole year worth of payments done early!!! That's in the hundreds of dollars saved!!! And it was such a surprise!!!!

Finally, a reward for being financially responsible. Hey, since we've been paying our mortgage perfectly but can't refinance because we haven't been deliquent while others CHOOSE to not pay their mortgage just to be able to get their loans modified... I guess this little surprise helps make up for it.

That is AWESOME! My brother read an article in the NY times about student loans being forgiven so he called the loan officer and negotiated his loans down by about 20,000 dollars. It doesn't make any sense to me that they'd do that for people who ARE paying their bills (don't they want the rest of the money that's surely coming?) but it is a nice perk for being fiscally responsible.

Are you kidding me! I had no idea you were still paying on Jessie's student loans! Why didn't you tell us a long time ago they were not paid off and we could have done something about that...I am so glad you live right and are financially responsible! Way to go and CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
